Found sound & field recording
Turn a raw field recording into usable production material — at whatever creative distance you want.
A phone recording of a subway platform is rarely usable on its own — too much noise, too little control. Load it into DreamSampler as your seed audio and explore until you find the sound you want.
How to do it
- 1Import your field recording as a file — subway noise, room tone, a scrap of dialogue.
- 2Add DreamSampler to an instrument track, click
Connect, and feed the recording as the source. - 3Set a prompt that points toward what you want the sound to become.
- 4Use Strength, Structure, and Timbre to choose your distance — recognizable, or something entirely new.
- 5Slice it into pads, or play it in Classic mode, to perform the transformation.
- 6Record the result, or drag pads into your DAW as production material.
Tips
- Steer in real time
- Move the controls and hear the transformation land where you want it.
- Choose your distance
- Go from lightly cleaned-up to unrecognizable, all from the same source.
- Any recording works
- Noise, room tone, a scrap of speech — all of it is seed material.
