Statement on AI

From stem-splitting to sample generation, artificial intelligence is rapidly changing music production. In many cases, AI models have been developed and trained on data that was taken without consent or compensation.

We are ethically, philosophically, and morally opposed to this approach. Artists and producers, whether independent or signed to a label, must have the right to refuse training on their material. We do not, have not, and will never train models on unlicensed data.

We also recognize that AI is here to stay. It is a powerful technology. It is improving at lightning speed. And it is likely to impact the lives and livelihoods of musicians and audio engineers around the world.

It is time to prioritize artists in the development of AI-enabled audio technology — from product design, to training, to ownership and revenue.

In our work, we strive to give artists unassailable control over the music they create, maximize personalization and artistic control, and design digital tools that promote (rather than degrade) human creativity.

This is not the easy path, but we believe it is the right one.
