Which AI music generators give you stems?

Stems turn a finished track into parts you can mix: drop the drums, solo the bass, duck the keys under a voice. Here's which generators export them, on which plan, as of October 2026.

Several do, but most only on a paid plan, and they don't all mean the same thing by "stems". The Daydream Music Generator gives every song its stems on every plan, the free one included: separate drums, bass, guitar, keys and other tracks that add up exactly to the mix. Daydream Studio, a browser-based studio for hybrid music production, exports every part as its own stem, also on every plan. As of October 2026, Suno offers stem separation from its Pro plan ($8 a month billed yearly), Soundraw from its Artist Pro plan, and Mubert's editor works on stems inside the app. If you need the stems of a song that already exists (someone else's recording), that's a stem separator, a different kind of tool.

Two kinds of stems

  • Made with the song. The generator produces each part as its own track, and the mix is the sum of them. Nothing is guessed, so there's no bleed between parts: the bass stem has no drums in it.
  • Split from the mix afterwards. The tool makes a finished mix, then a separator estimates the parts from it. Quick and useful, but separated stems can carry artefacts and a little of their neighbours.

Both are called stems. If you'll mix the parts hard (solo them, process them, rebuild the arrangement) ask which kind you're getting.

Who gives you stems, as of 20 October 2026

  • Daydream Music Generator: stems with every song on every plan (drums, bass, guitar, keys and other). Free is 10 songs a month and 3 downloads a month, MP3 only; each download of a song's stems counts toward the 3. The Songs plan is 500 tracks a month and unlimited downloads of mixes and stems for $4. Instrumental only.
  • Daydream Studio (a research preview): every part as its own stem, on every plan. Session players follow your part, chords and groove, each on its own lane, and the parts you play or record sit beside them; export them all to finish in your DAW. On a Mac, Studio runs your own VST3 and AU plugins on any lane, in the browser, through a small helper called Studio Bridge, so a stem can leave with your effects already on it.
  • Suno: stem separation is on Pro ($8 a month billed yearly, $10 monthly; two modes) and Premier ($24 a month billed yearly, $30 monthly; three modes); not on the free plan. Suno makes songs with vocals, so it's where to go if you need a vocal stem.
  • Soundraw: the Creator plan downloads MP3 only; stems and WAV start on Artist Pro at $35.99 a month.
  • Mubert: the Pro plan includes a track editor that works on stems, BPM and key; the free plan can regenerate or remove stems in a quick remix.
  • AIVA: exports MP3 and MIDI on every plan and WAV on Pro; MIDI gives you the notes of each part to re-voice in your own instruments.

What you can do with stems

  • Duck a part under a voice. Lower the keys or guitar while someone talks, keep the drums and bass.
  • Make an intro or a breakdown. Start with just the drums, bring the bass in, then the rest.
  • Layer music in a game. Add the drum stem when a fight starts; fade it out when it ends.
  • Rap or sing over it. Pull the busiest part down to leave room for your vocal.
  • Finish it in a DAW. Re-balance, add effects, replace a part with your own playing.

How to get stems from a description

  1. Describe the song at gen.daydream.live: genre, mood, instruments, tempo.
  2. Pick a length, or Seamless loop for music that repeats.
  3. Open the version you like and take the stems. They arrive a few seconds after the mix.

On the API, a finished version lists its stems once stems_ready is true. See the music API for developers.

If you want to change a part, not just export it

Exporting stems gives you parts to mix. To change how a part is played (a busier bassline, a simpler beat) you need a tool that remakes it against the others. In Daydream Studio you book drums, bass, keys, strings or horns, they play along with your part, and you change any part as it goes; then every part leaves as its own stem. Studio is free to start in your browser, no account needed; see how to add drums or bass to a song you recorded.
