Play

What a key does: trigger plays the slice through, gate sounds only while held.

Trigger fires the whole slice on a note-on and lets it run. Gate sounds only for as long as you hold the key, so note length becomes a performance control.

Why it matters

Trigger suits one-shots and drums; gate suits pads and anything where you want to play the length.
