Daydream vs Stable Audio
Daydream Studio is a browser-based studio for hybrid music production: session players follow your part, chords and groove while it plays, you change any part as it goes, and every part comes out as its own stem. Daydream Songs makes a finished instrumental track from a description, with the mix and every stem. Stable Audio, from Stability AI, makes instrumental music and sound effects from a description, in a web app and a plugin for your DAW.

Which is better, Daydream or Stable Audio?
It depends on where you work. Neither makes sung vocals. For a plugin inside your DAW, sound effects, or models you run on your own hardware, use Stable Audio. If you want a studio in your browser, with players that follow your part and, on a Mac, your own VST3 and AU plugins, use Daydream Studio. If you want finished instrumentals for less, Daydream Songs is $4 a month for 500 tracks with unlimited downloads, against Stable Audio Solo at $12 a month. Daydream Free is cleared for commercial use; Stable Audio Free is non-commercial.

Use Stable Audio if
- You want to make music inside your DAW: the Stable Audio plugin comes with every plan.
- You want sound effects as well as music.
- You want to run the models on your own hardware: most Stable Audio 3.0 models are released as open weights.
- You want long instrumentals: up to 6 minutes on the paid plans.
Use Daydream if
- You want to make the track yourself. Studio is a DAW in your browser: record or hum a part, book session players who follow your part, chords and groove while it plays, change any of them as it goes, then arrange, mix and export. Studio comes with Free, Pro and Max.
- You want your own sounds in it. On a Mac, Studio runs your own VST3 and AU instruments and effects on any lane, in the browser, through a small helper called Studio Bridge.
- You need royalty-free background music for a video, a game, a stream or a podcast. Songs makes an instrumental track from a description, cleared for commercial use on every plan, and $4 a month gets you 500 tracks with unlimited downloads of mixes and stems.
- You want to use free music commercially. Everything you make on Daydream is cleared for commercial use, Free included.
- You want to own what you make, copyright and all. Daydream’s terms assign it to you on every plan, Free included, take no cut and ask for no credit.
- You want it to sound like you. On Pro and Max you train a Style on your own tracks and put it on any player.
Questions
- Is Stable Audio free for commercial use?
- Not the free web plan: Stable Audio Free is for personal, non-commercial use, and the paid plans, from $12 a month, carry a commercial licence, as of 20 October 2026. Daydream Free is cleared for commercial use, with 3 downloads a month.
- If I cancel Stable Audio, can I keep using what I made?
- Yes, per Stable Audio’s pricing page: audio made on any paid plan stays covered under the original licence after you cancel. On Daydream you own what you make, on every plan, and cancelling doesn’t change that.
- Does Stable Audio or Daydream make vocals?
- Neither. Stability AI says Stable Audio 3.0 doesn’t make vocals or lyrics, and Daydream makes instrumental music. In Daydream Studio you can hum or record your own part, your voice included, and session players play along with it.
